The dental school is proud to announce that on
Sunday, June 13, 2010, Mark L. Wagner, DMD and Warren M. Morganstein,
DDS, MPH, MAc, LAc ’69, were honored with the Smiles of Zion
Service Award. This event took place during the 25th Anniversary
Banquet of the Jerusalem Dental Center for Children in Boston, MA. Drs.
Wagner and Morganstein were recognized as the first two directors of
the clinic while on sabbatical leave from the University of Maryland
Dental School in 1985 and 1986. This clinic was one of the first of its
kind in the Middle East, providing service at significantly reduced
fees to those who could otherwise not afford dental care.
Dr. Wagner joined the faculty at the dental school
in 1968 in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry until his retirement
in 2001. He established the first Office of Student Affairs, serving as
assistant dean and then associate dean for academic and student
affairs until 1993. Dr. Wagner was subsequently appointed
professor emeritus. He currently serves as a Dean’s Faculty
member in the Department of Health Promotion and Policy.
Dr. Morganstein joined the faculty at the dental
school in 1971, serving as associate dean from 1976 until 2005 after
having served as chair of the Department of Oral Health Care Delivery
and director of the DAU/TEAM programs. He is presently a member of the
part-time faculty and serves as clinical professor in the Department of
Health Promotion and Policy. He also serves as director of the
Enrichment Program and Dean’s Faculty. Dr. Morganstein was
appointed professor emeritus in 2007.
The dental school congratulates Drs. Wagner and
Morganstein on this honor and thanks them for their continued service
to dental education and the profession of dentistry.
